What is an Acacia?
Acacia is actually a very common tree found throughout Africa. As you can see from our logo, it has a very distinct and eye-catching appearance. More importantly though, the acacia tree provides much-needed shade for people living on the hot Africa savannah. The name Acacia was chosen because of this important purpose. Women can often be found doing their beadwork and other crafts while seated in the shade of an acacia tree.
What is fair trade?
Fair trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, which seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers. Guiding principles of fair trade include:
- Creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers
- Capacity building
- Payment of a fair price
- Gender equality
- Safe and healthy working conditions

Is Acacia Handmade Imports a non-profit organization?
No, Acacia Handmade Imports operates as a for-profit limited liability company. This does not mean, however, that we benefit at the expense of our workers and suppliers. Our costs accomodate a fair, livable wage.

Will I be responsible for international shipping and customs charges?
No! Our prices already include the cost of international shipping and you will NOT be charged any additional charge. The retailer assumes only the cost of domestic shipping from York, Pennsylvania.
When will I be expected to pay for an order?
Unless arranged otherwise, credit card information will be collected at the time an order is placed. You will not be charged, however, until your order is shipped domestically. Alternative arrangements can be considered. |
